Legend of Sour Jujube Kernel
Legend of Sour Jujube Kernel
In ancient China, there was a remarkably filial girl named Sour Jujube. In order to cure her mother's insomnia, she braved countless hardships to venture deep into the mountains to gather medicinal herbs. Along the way, some hard branches scratched the girl, staining the thorny branches with her fresh blood. The young girl chopped off two large bundles of these branches and brought them home as firewood.
Unexpectedly, as the branches burned, they produced a crackling sound and emitted a fragrant aroma. The small red fruits on the branches had been roasted by the fire, revealing black-red kernel underneath the skin. When her mother consumed these fragrant kernels, she enjoyed a sound and restful sleep, miraculously curing her long-standing insomnia. In gratitude for the girl's filial devotion, the villagers named these fruit kernels after her, calling them "Sour Jujube Kernels."
