Spring Health Care for Liver Cancer Patients

Spring is the season of rejuvenation, making it the most suitable time to nourish the liver! Liver cancer patients should seize the opportunity in spring to lay a foundation for liver health.

1.Regular Daily Routines

According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, going to bed before 11 p.m. is beneficial for the repair of liver and gallbladder functions. The period from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. is when the liver undergoes self-repair and metabolism, reaching the peak of detoxification. Establishing regular sleeping habits, ensuring sufficient rest, and avoiding staying up late are the first steps in liver care.

2.Emotional Release

With the liver meridian in full swing during spring, negative emotions such as discontent, frustration, resentment, and others may arise. Prolonged suppression of these emotions can lead to stagnation of qi and disruption of qi circulation, potentially harming the liver. Releasing negative emotions and avoiding irritability and anger are conducive to liver maintenance. Additionally, herbal remedies like Chai Hu, Bai Shao, Dang Gui, Bai Zhu, Fu Ling, Gan Cao, Sheng Jiang, and a small amount of peppermint can be beneficial.

3.Dietary Adjustment

TCM believes in the principle "green color enters the liver meridian." Green-colored foods such as cabbage, bok choy, leeks, spinach, broccoli, oilseed rape, green apples, and kiwi are fresh, delicious, and rich in chlorophyll, fiber, and vitamins (such as folic acid and calcium). These foods support liver circulation, metabolism, and toxin elimination. Sweet foods like jujube and yam, as well as black-colored foods like black beans, black sesame, shiitake mushrooms, and black fungus, are also suitable for spring consumption. Additionally, soaking some wolfberries and red dates in water for drinking can have liver-protective effects.

4.Outdoor Activities

Spring is an excellent time for exercise and fitness. For liver cancer patients, gentle activities such as walking, enjoying nature, playing sports, practicing Tai Chi, or fishing can help promote blood circulation, enhance overall health, and achieve liver care and immune system support.

5.Shoulder and Leg Patting

Pat the inner and outer sides of the thighs (Liver Meridian, Gallbladder Meridian) with clenched fists for 5 minutes each, alternating legs. Stand with feet apart, eyes level, and hands hanging naturally. Rotate both shoulders forward and backward ten times each, then shake them up and down ten times. If a sense of soreness appears, it is sufficient. This exercise helps promote liver blood circulation, soothe the liver, and prevent discomforts like insomnia, vivid dreams, irritability, dizziness, and headaches.

6.Massage Acupoints for Health

Massaging acupoints such as Taichong (Liver 3) on the dorsum of the foot and Taixi (Kidney 3) between the medial malleolus and the Achilles tendon can relieve discomforts like dizziness, tinnitus, vertigo, irritability, and anger while supporting liver health.
